In 2001, Dr. David Hatcher opened the first US private practice to scan dental patients with CBCT. As CBCT units became more prevalent in the U.S., scans were being mailed to David from all over. With cases piling up in his office, it became clear he needed a platform and support from other oral and maxillofacial radiologists to meet this growing need.
Over the 2007 Thanksgiving holiday, David’s brother Tom and his business partner, Craig Dial, drafted the concept of what would become BeamReaders. Their initial prototype proved it was possible to securely manage large CBCT DICOM files over the internet and create a network of radiologist professionals. In less than five months from concept, BeamReaders completed its first radiology report in March 2008!
BeamReaders continues its original mission to connect and build a community of oral and maxillofacial radiologists to provide their imaging expertise to the rest of the dental field.
Since BeamReaders’ inception, the use of CBCT imaging has exploded within the dental field as the applications for 3D imaging continue to grow. Our team is diverse, with some members working part-time with us while they teach in elite institutions or serve in the armed forces and others committed to full-time private practice with BeamReaders.
Our OMRs support each other and drive a quality mindset. All new team members undergo an intensive onboarding experience that includes hours of mentoring by senior team members. All radiologists participate in ongoing peer reviews to learn from each other and ensure we continually improve. The radiologists also participate in internal study groups to circulate challenging cases and keep abreast of current publications. When the tough cases hit, the team can tap into the collective expertise of our entire team by escalating challenging cases for group feedback. BeamReaders radiologists always support each other and grow their craft, giving you confidence in your reports.
We are excited about the future integration of technology into dental radiology.
